JOB DESCRIPTION

The ideal candidate will apply professional psychiatric nursing care principles and practices in the evaluation and treatment of psychiatric patients; Communicate with and gain the cooperation of patients; Keep accurate written charts and records of patient activities and progress; Conduct psycho-social assessments of individuals; Establish psychiatric diagnosis and evaluate diagnostic tests. In addition, the psychiatric nurse practitioner will formulate treatment plans and manage follow-up care for all clients;  Learn and comply with laws, rules, regulations, protocols, and procedures; Use professional judgment to determine and apply appropriate intervention techniques with patients in crisis; Conduct and review reports of interviews of patients to evaluate their condition and determine the circumstances causing them to require mental health treatment services; Conduct and assist in formal and informal individual and group counseling; Communicate effectively orally and in writing, with patients, their families, facility and clinic personnel, and others; Maintain patient confidentiality.

SALARY

$67.57-$87.99/hour based on experience and education; Exempt; Not eligible for Overtime. 

*Eligible for Sign-on Bonus.

 

REPORTS TO

Deputy Director.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Current R.N. license in the state of California required. Nurse Practitioner certification by the California Board of Registered Nursing (board certified psychiatric or family nurse practitioner. Graduate of an Accredited School of Nurse Practitioner Program (MSN or DNP) required.

Three (3) years’ experience as a Nurse Practitioner in a Psychiatric setting required. National Certification by recognized board-American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) OR American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) required. Furnishing privileges and DEA License with the California Board of Registered Nursing required. BLS Certification required. Demonstrated knowledge of psychiatric illnesses including addictions.

Valid California driver's license; Auto in safe operating condition; Auto liability insurance; Good driving record; Criminal record clearance; Proof of authorization to work in the United States as required by Immigration and Reform Act of 1986.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the supervision of the Deputy Director, the Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner will:

  • Psychiatrically evaluate, assess and treat assigned Interim clients.
  • Take psychiatric, social and medical histories, and evaluate mental status.
  • Create, initiate and implement a plan of treatment including physical assessment when indicated.
  • Prescribe psychotropic medications and conduct regular assessments of therapeutic responses and side effects.
  • Administer Intramuscular (IM) psychotropic medications.
  • Educate clients regarding psychotropic medications and perform monitoring in accordance with recommended guidelines.
  • Collaborate with primary care providers in assessment of client physical health, making appropriate referrals to community providers for further assessment and treatment and coordinating medical treatments with Integrated Dual Diagnosis Treatment.
  • Meet with clients and consult regularly with support staff to evaluate effectiveness and potential side effects of medications.
  • Evaluate clients for potential abuse, neglect, and risk of danger to self and others, and assists clients and families in securing the least restrictive environment to ensuring safety.
  • Document care in an electronic medical record according to Medicare standards in a timely manner according to agency guidelines.
  • Participates in program meetings and supervision.
  • Establishes and maintains effective relations with clients, client families and support staff.
  • Maintains a comfortable, safe, non-institutional ambiance in the program.
  • Contributes to organization-wide quality management and improvement efforts by consistently providing highest quality of professional interventions, fulfilling all documentation requirement and proactively seeking ways to enhance the quality of services provided.
  • Provide on-site crisis assessment and management of patients during regular work hours, both on-site and over the phone, during other hours.
  • Process and bill using an Electronic Medical Records System with 70% productivity. 
  • Participate in psychiatric supervision agreement with MD to maintain licensing PMHNP-BC standards.
  • Available to consult in emergency crisis.
  • As assigned, will need to provide supervision to LVN/RN.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Ability to: operate a motor vehicle; climb stairs; write and communicate in English; enter data on a computer screen; read documents being word-processed, etc.; answer phones and communicate with staff, residents and agency visitors; meet the requirements of the classification and have mobility, vision, hearing and dexterity levels appropriate to the duties to be performed. Capable of the following extended activities: standing, sitting, climbing stairs.

Capable of the following intermittent activities: lifting 25 pounds or more and bending in the performance of infrequently performed office duties.
